Great series so far. Really liked the style, characters, and storytelling and imo, one of the cutest of this season :>

I kinda wonder how much they can tell the story though with 24 episodes based on the premise.

Nice review! I agree with the sentiments, and it's one of my favorites right now as well.

As far as female versions of Takeo, i think the closest any anime has gotten would be Say I Love You, where the absurdly good looking male love interest dates the """average'''' main girl character; however, she's still conventionally attractive by anyone's standards.

this show is moe as fudge, especialyl takeo, got a friend who is into bara to watch this (he was against watching a shoujo but the premise got him to start watching). suna-san is an interesting element in the plot as he could be/do anything (help out takeo with his crush, maybe really fall for the girls), on ep01 I still had my doubts about the girl being in love with takeo as it coudl have been red herrings, but episode 02 makes me thing that is the way she is going... and well takeo is obviously in love with the girl, so that leaves suna to make this show unpredictable.

hat said, it's still unfortunately true that no anime studio would sign off on a female version of Takeo.
is not princess jellyfish supossed to be exactly that ? also is not every shoujo ever about average looking girls getting super hot guys (those are not ugly girls but the idea should be there) ?

atractiveness of anime/manga characters is something I like talking about, like, when a random show gets adapted to live action and some fans are like "X character is tno cute/hot enough", while there's nothing supporting that said character is hot/cute; it gets to the point where(in some fans minds) even characters that are supossed to be ugly are considered to be as atractive as characters that are suopssed to be super atractive (yes I am talkign about tae and reika from gantz).

personally I consider all manga/anime characters to be average atractiveness wise unless stated otherwise; that also makes harem show a little bit rmoe believable, as I assume all the members of the harem to be average looking (and then we get a random male character who is not the mc commenting on how the mc gets all the hot girls, lol) unless stated otherwise. romance/pairing logic works better that way and so do statistics.

Madhouse doing romance? Sounds interesting. I'm in.

Well, the manga is still ongoing so, apparently a lot. Though, I hope not all 24 episodes are "I'm gonna try to hook up my best friend with the girl I like."

That's all anyone's seen of him (except for Suna), despite his caring and compassionate nature.

That's not quite true. His male classmates in middle school apparently adored him and were weeping to be parted at graduation. But apparently none of the girls ever caught on that he was a sweetie.

I did not wonder "where he'd get the knowledge," since I'm sure he's been exposed (npi) to many male butts in his life. See fundoshi and public baths. And he probably has a porn stash like any other healthy young man his age. I only wondered that he would make such a distinction. That scene was rife with subtext. Very Happy

And Blue Spring Ride? I guess I can see that, but I keep feeling like I'm watching a side story of Chihayafuru. Either way, this series is off to a pretty good start.

I disagree with the review on Takeo having it bad because of his appearances. The only real consequence he had was when they put him into the role of the red ogre (and he accepted it happily), the rest of the time he doesn't seem to have that many problems or receiving weird looks or something (he was loved by his partners in his previous highschool), it's just girls aren't interested on him. And I'm glad it's like this and the show never makes direct statements like "I'm ugly" "he's ugly", that makes it more realistic and cute, and it decreases the self-indulgeness factor that such premise could have hidden inside.

I'm also kind of worried about the length of the show by dragging this too much, especially because these episode have been fairly slow, but I hope there's more, and if it's possible a conclusive ending even if the manga doesn't have one. But so far I'm liking it.

It has been established that Takeo is "intimidating" looking (like when he was guarding the kindergarten and got a ticket) but I agree that his looks are usually equated with "scary/yakuza like" but not "ugly." He even gets some fanservice moments later that I hope are adapted well. I also can't wait for them to introduce his dad.

I was laughing at that beam scene in 2nd ep. Could that scene have felt even more shoehorned?

I am also so glad that the show already finished the misunderstanding part and actually turned them into a couple, while at the same time being focused on the bromance (as Yamato directly says in the episode Laughing ). In fact, these three episodes are so autoconclusive you could show them to anyone to see if they would like to see more or not, sort of like the first three episodes of Jojo.

This was cute to the extreme degre and the fact that they are actually going to develop their relationship as a couple, I cannot wait for that. It reminds me to Kare Kano which in episode 4 they were a couple already, although Kare Kano is the pedestal of "show with highs and lows" and kind of creepy for moments (intentional and unintentional), so this will be more different and probably a much healthier relationship, which it's also nice to see.

P.S.: Welp, I guess my remark about Takeo not being that judged was kind of wrong, although for the context and being this minor I don't mind.

That was a bizarre translation choice if you ask me. I'm not against liberal translations if they work within the setting and characterization, but in this case translating 男の友情 (men's/male friendship) as "bromance" really feels off, considering that Yamato doesn't strike me as the type of person to use a term like that unironically (actually I'm finding it hard to imagine any sort of person who could say it with a straight face). It doesn't help that the word "bromance" (ブロマンス) does exist in Japanese, although it's probably not quite as widely used as it is in English yet.

From what I hear, the part of the story they're based on was originally a self-contained one-shot, so I guess that's not surprising. I'm also a bit apprehensive about how it's going to play out from now on, but yeah, even if the rest of the story is just them being cute with each other it's better than two cours worth of misunderstandings and faux love triangles.

I love how the show doesn't go for low hanging fruit. Takeo and Rinko get together quickly and Makoto doesn't become part of an awkward love triangle. It's funny too.

It's a breath of fresh air to have a love story about people who aren't prone to violent fits and who genuinely care about and can communicate with one another.

I first thought that Suna was just a cold guy who just help one friend and that's it. After 3 episodes, he's become the kind of friend every guy should have. I love when he starts to laugh, he looks so, so, so... Kawaii.

Now that the relationship is settled, I'd love to get a lot of character development from all the guys.
