Video game adaptations. I know its a hard challenge and may have already been done but I'd love to see Lynzee Lamb do a top anime based off video games.
Yeah most are very lacking like BlazBlue but there's some good ones, like Gungrave which is actually better than the game! |

the blaz blue is lacking mention of the really bad animation quality can I assume that got fixed for the bd release or was it a case of the getting an already bad enough review without having to mention that ?

Welcome aboard~!
I'm really glad to see Re: Cyborg 009 get covered. I have a great personal love of the series. I'm sad to see that it's a bit of a mess, but I'm still interested in seeing it--especially since they remade Jet Link's appearance to something semi-human. That's an amazing feat! |

"I wanted to like this movie more than I did" perfectly describes my reaction to 009 Re:Cyborg. The attempt as making it 'deep' and 'meaningful' (and not incidentally setting up the potential for a sequel) was poorly thought out and worse executed, and as a result the entire movie pretty much fell flat. The artificially induced (and completely unneeded) inter-character drama just made things wore.
As far as the 3d 'animation' goes, the less said the better. |

Even as someone who's played the BlazBlue games religiously, I can barely make sense of the story. It almost seems like there was a conscious effort to make the overarching plot as needlessly complex as possible. I can deal with stupid, but when stupid joins forces with ridiculously complicated, I tend to tune out. I could actually have overlooked the story issues with Alter Memory had the battles been more engaging and/or better-animated. As another poster pointed out, though, certain animation issues may have been addressed for the BD release.
Agreed. I enjoyed the Gungrave games in spite of their repetitive gameplay, but the anime adaptation is far superior in my opinion. |

Heh, that's another thing about fighting games that this BlazBlue adaptation brought over. (Well, Calamity Trigger was my very first traditional fighting game, and I couldn't figure it out. I had a 7% win rate online by the time I stopped.) |

I am just curious as to why Rob keeps all those rating stickers on his DVD's. Since the DVD's are being displayed, the rating stickers stick out like a sore thumb.

They are printed directly onto the cover art so there is no way to remove them. They look like Australian titles, who have a very different set of rules about displaying ratings on video releases.

The anime, in my opinion, did a bad job at adapting the story line like it could've, rushing the story of the first game into 3 episodes and half-heartedly developing (side)-characters that are supposed fan favorites. I feel like it'd be borderline unwatchable if you're not familiar with the series, leaving you with a subpar adaptation of already complicated source-material. Naturally, doing that leaves out a number of details, making what is supposedly complicated, feel more out of place if anything else. |

I was under the strong impression that spoiler[God was the actual villain and they "defeated" him by begging him to stop.] One of the reasons I find Re:Cyborg 009 a pretentious, plodding, desperate-to-impress disaster that has zero respect for or even a basic interest in the Cyborg 009 franchise and just tries to be whatever Kenji Kamiyama wanted in his sad attempt to be like his mentor Oshii (at least Kamiyama's GitS is so much better than his mentor's). It's awful and one of the worst anime movies I've seen in my decades as a fan of the medium. |

Regarding the question of animation quality in BlazBlue, it's, well, not great. It wasn't quite bad enough to be worth calling out amongst the show's other issues, but it certainly didn't do anything to improve the experience. Think of it as an oasis of mediocrity in a desert of general incompetence. I do kind of miss Jet's absurdly pointy nose from the older Cyborg 009 iterations. I always figured it served some kind of aerodynamic function while he was flying. |

I had the good fortune to watch 009 at the cinema with 3D goggles. The spectacle blew away its many shortcomings. Sometimes the rational for making something is more apparent when it's big and loud. |
