I used to watch the anime series Saban aired on Nick Jr in the early 90s.
I also watched "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" (I stopped watching after numerous character changes).
The last time I've heard about Saban was on an Internet talk radio show when they threatened to sue the creators of the "Power/Rangers" fan video because of its dark & violent content.

produced a new adaptation of a Kamen Rider show, Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight.

Nope. This was Adness, and the adaptation itselfwas helmed by Wang brothers, who IIRC worked on Power Rangers before. CW aired it... except the last episode (which was mostly an epilogue anyway). The show itself bombed horribly, mostly due to bad timeslots and over-excessive recaps which took about 3 minutes of each ep and there were 3 full-episode clip shows over the course of 40 episodes. If it aired nowadays, the show would have probably had a bigger chance of succeeding, thanks to Arrow and Flash's popularity.

That said, Saban Brands apparently had some plans to adapt a KR series, as they registered "Power Rider" brand, but nothing came out of it.

There's also the rumor (with some sources confirming it IIRC?) that Saban has the rights to a show they're naming "Glitter Force" which sounds suspiciously like "Smile Pretty Cure"

I hope it's true, I kinda miss Saban as a kids anime licensing company.

Dragon Knight aired in 2009, which was before Saban Brands became active.

Wow, Disney is just one huge entertainment conglomerate! Swallowing up the Muppets franchise, Star Wars, Marvel Comics, etc.. Where will it end?

I'm just glad Star Wars and Marvel movies aren't getting a G rating which was my worst fear of the buyout.

If you turn off the lights, look into a mirror, and say "Saban" three times, Stu Levy will appear. This is 100% true; How do you think Tokyopop is back?

My favorites as a kid (which I did not know at the time were anime) were Maya the Bee & Grimm's Fairy Tale Adventures. I was watching the openings on YouTube recently and saw the Saban logo. It made me feel all nostalgic. I was an anime fan before I even knew it.

I also loved David the Gnome which was apparently from Spain.

I missed the good ol days when Nick imported most of its programming.

Being afraid of the Disney buyout makes sense if you don't think about it much. The reason the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand is because of the buyout. Iron-man & Incredible Hulk were big Box Office movies but Marvel Studios was just a small company in terms of movie studios.

Because of Disney's backing we got the surprise hit Guardians of the Galaxy. Paramount wouldn't have okay'd a distribution deal for a third string comic property.

Disney is also only the parent company. This means Disney has controlling interest on Marvel's Board and could vote to change leadership but do not have direct control over day to day and projects.

Direct control would be over a division such as Walt Disney Studios.

But Disney, OTOH, let Marvel do what it wanted, and Marvel wanted a "space" title that would cross-canon set up explanations of Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet for Avengers 3A&B--And as we are (ahem) no doubt aware by now Rolling Eyes , the rights to Fantastic Four were still at Fox, as were the Silver Surfer's.
The former of which ultimately demonstrates the value of giving Marvel to a studio that lets it make its OWN films, not to mention the futility of stubborn resistance. After this summer, I don't think there'll be any more argument.

Certainly a better business decision in the longrun than getting the rights to have the Power Rangers appear on the Disney Channel and at the parks.

Disney may be the big M&E company in entertainment, but it's nothing compared to Pepsi-Cola. Pepsi currently owns Frito-Lay, Quaker, Tropicana, Walkers, Lipton, Aunt Gemima, Rockstar (the energy drinks), SoBe, Gatorade, Pasta Roni/Rice a Roni, and Sabra Hummus, and it once also owned KFC, Taco Bell, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Stolichnaya, Chevys Mexican Grill, and Wilson Sporting Goods. Pepsi also currently owns Wimm-Bill-Dann Foods and thus pretty much controls the Russian beverage market.

Pepsi is the real company to fear. (And Nestlé. And Kraft Foods. And Bimbo Bakeries.)

But why would he do that? Eventually, he'll find someone who wants to shoot him.

Disney was fairly involved in continuing the franchise projects Saban had been working on when they were bought out; they briefly made a minor branch company out of Saban to dub Digimon Frontier, then when Savers came out they went all-out and not only dubbed it in short order but also went ahead and dubbed almost all the other movies that hadn't been dubbed up to that point, along with using their rights to airing Digimon to keep constant reruns of all the series released to date. They also continued to produce Power Rangers seasons in between the buyout and the Brands acquirement, and they were also cycling reruns of all the past series as well.

You could make an easy argument that their upkeep of Digimon, at least in regards to keeping the franchise afloat, was more diligent than Saban Brands' is now, since Brands hasn't really been doing a great job with remembering that any series that's not Adventure, 02, or Fusion (the last of which their network handling has been abysmally bad with) exists. Company morals of buyouts aside, Disney very obviously had a lot more budget and willingness to market. I'm not sure how this went along with Power Rangers, but I wouldn't be surprised if the situation were similar.

It's a pretty common topic among Digimon and Power Rangers circles, as there's an obvious difference in style and quality in the dubbing/localization styles between Entertainment, Disney, and Brands for both franchises. (I actually happen to favor Disney's treatment of both myself, but that really boils down to your personal opinion.)
