That's just how it is in WSJ, every three months a handful of new series are serialized, but if they rank poorly in the magazine's reader poll they get axed pretty quickly. Devilyman was dead bottom in the latest three or four polls, so it was expected |

^Pretty much, yeah. it's actually the norm for most new series to get axed after ~18 chapters. Of the series that have been released over the past year, only Kagamigami, Black Clover, and Straighten Up! are still being published now. The new swimming manga Best Blue is also still going, but it looks to be on its way out going by recent ratings.

It's even worse if you read Viz's Jump where they cancel every series that isn't fantasy or sci-fi after 3 chapters.

ehh, that's not "cancelling" it though. They do the 3-chapter Jump Starts to gauge interest in new titles via the user polls, and if something's popular enough to bother translating weekly they bring it over. it just so happens that the only series they've done it with that have stuck around are World Trigger and Black Clover. |

A real shame. From what I read, I liked it. It was like a more comical Death Note. The premise definitely sounds like a turn-off though.
But Devilyman, with a name change, can make for quite the interesting Hollywood movie. A devil who's really bad at making deals would be comedy gold.
My Hero Academia too, which makes for a pretty impressive year, as most years only get 1 or 2 successful series. The first Jump Start! had a survey, and the winner got to remain in WSJ (which was Hi-Fi Cluster). Every Jump Start! after that skipped the survey entirely. I don't know why. Maybe Viz created a better tracking system. But I did do the surveys at the end for the magazine in general, but the Jump Start! section was no longer present after the first. |

Another failed Jump-Start series. What is the success rate of those series now? 3 out of how many?
