Shameless plug: I'll be doing a panel on the history of Muv-Luv -- including Schwarzesmarken and age's other works -- at Anime Weekend Atlanta next week. It's currently scheduled to be Sunday morning at 11, though the final schedule hasn't yet been posted (EDIT: now it has). When it is, look for the "Rumbling Luv Maniax" panel.

I'll be the old dude cosplaying Muv-Luv and Rumbling Hearts that weekend, so come say hi.

Of all the titles, they pick a somewhat hard to pronounce German title.

The other thing that's interesting about the title is that it drops the "Muv-Luv" prefix. It's just "Scharzesmarken", not "Muv-Luv Alternative: Schwarzesmarken". Compare to "Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse", an earlier spinoff that was cited in the article.

Could be, of course, that after more than 10 years, everyone has clued into how the cutesy "Muv-Luv" name was an epic act of trolling. "Come for the dippy harem romance, stay for the man-eating aliens and sci-fi geopolitics".

I thought that girl was Shiro. I was really hoping that was a promo image for a new Deadman Wonderland anime series.

Wow Hypeeee for this and the upcoming VN!
Still bummed that MLA still hasn't got an anime adaptatation yet but now I think it's just a matter of time until it happens.

In order for us to have a sequel with the American lord Yuuya Bridges, we must look back at the past first.

The TE anime was largely promoted as and officially titled just "Total Eclipse" (including the rather quickly dropped anime only katakana logo), but that's not quite related.

Schwarzesmarken is named that way in part because it's so far back and removed in the timeline it really has nothing to do with anything from the main Muv-Luv story besides its own far off connections to Total Eclipse and Duty Lost Arcadia, while all the others take place in either the exact same time window where the timeline splits and/or involve the original Muv-Luv characters in some role. To put it another way, Schwarzesmarken is legitimately not a sidestory of Muv-Luv Alternative but rather just something in the same universe.

Although Duty Lost Arcadia itself dropped its previous title of Muv-Luv Alternative The Euro Front since (and based on current popularity is next in line for animation)

An incorrect one (they know) too.

I'm excited for this but not going to keep my expectations high yet. Game adaptations like this is usually a hit or miss.

Nice casting choices though.
