I was also a bit confused about Hana not recognizing Akane, but I think the explanation was supposed to be that Akane's hair was tied up differently from normal, which somehow made her completely unrecognizable from behind. She instantly realized who it was when she saw her face.

This also loosely connects it to the earlier bit where Akane bargains with Shu about the chores, and agrees to tie her hair in an embarrassing way.

The anime seems to be going a slightly different path from the manga and sort of portrays the characters differently.

spoiler[For example, Shu in the manga has a obvious sis con for Akane and was shown to be more teasing and devilish towards her like threatening to put camera's in her room for his personal use, while Akane seems to be put off by it and finds Shu annoying. However in the anime, Shu is shown to be nicer to her and makes an effort to help her out, like switching chores with her so she doesn't have to deal with the cameras and going out of his way to walk her home(he could very well still be a sis con, but he seems to really like his classmate Sato too), while Akane is shown to really care and respect her Shu and she also seems to have a bro con when she got jealous of Shu and Sato's relationship to the point she had trouble sleeping.]

This anime is nothing spectacular or ground breaking, but its been a really cute and fun series thus far. It's basically this summers Yamada for me with less drama.

Unlike her siblings, Akane is extremely shy about the cameras all over town, concerned that they'll catch a glimpse of her panties.

It's not the panties she's fixated on, she doesn't want to be seen in general.

That was the idea, yeah.

Anyways, it's nice to have a show about a big happy family for a change. And a royal one at that. In any other story they'd have to hire food tasters and sleep with a dagger under their pillow.

If each episode was shorter, something like 15-minutes thing, I think it might've worked better. Compared to other 4-koma adaptations (like this season's Working!!!), this show starts to feel tired and out of breath, and the jokes aren't quite working for me.

So no one's getting a heavy Minami-ke vibe from this yet? This feels like what you'd get if you took the two Minami families, put them under the same roof, and added the occasional superpower into the mix.

Not saying that's a bad thing. I really enjoyed the concept Minami-ke had with representatives from multiple ages grouped in a single family. For the most part, I don't mind the typical yonkoma-to-anime format as it keeps any one storyline from overstaying its welcome and allows the focus to be a bit more spread out over the cast.

We'll have to see if this one turns out as good as Minami-ke was, but I'm looking forward to watching this one as it airs.

Yeah, that's the conclusion I came up with while I was watching. You could tell they were trying to set something up with the change in hairstyle even if it was a bit thin.

I enjoyed episode three so much, I can almost overlook the awkward, unfunny jokes about breast size featured in the first segment.

It's a fake magical circle. His mother probably drew it on him as part of their "contract" that he is a hero and must not use his super strength to harm others. Kids that age are pretty impressionable so it was a smart way to teach him to be careful.

I think it might be the mark of the magical contract he has with his mother (who can apparently initiate magical contracts).

the kids have powers.. but they didn't show the power of the parents though..

but ...the spell circle on the back of the hand and the hairdo.. i think i saw it somewhere before.. but can't remember where... Rolling Eyes

There is actually a German word for feeling embarrassed for someone:
fremdschämen. Quite a good deal of this in episode 4 as the reviewer mentioned. HanaKana is very good at embarrassment, like she was when she played kosaki onodera last season.

Episode 4:

Quote:
This episode focused on cramming as many different girls as possible into one half hour.

Uh...Did we watch the same episode? The first part was the skirt thing, which was just Akane and her friend, a few appearances by siblings, and a large crowd of dudes. The second part was the town beautification thing, which focused on Akane's all-male fanclub. And then the cat stuff, which was about a cat. A male cat.

Quote:
implausibly forgetting to wear a skirt to school

This was to avoid spoilers, I assume.

^I agree, I didn't really see the "girls parade" in this episode like the reviewer says it was, I felt it was more an Akane episode slightly focused on how people think about her.

Tbh, I found the first half very uncomfortable to watch. At first they handled well the friend's dilemma between telling her and killing her with embarrassment or letting her be obliviously happy, but it crossed the line of creepy when the hoarde of guys started following her, to try and peek at her panties -or worse, since some were even assuming she wasn't wearing underwear-. It felt rather tasteless that the whole thing was framed as a joke, I found it kind of gross. I'm also not happy with how much focus the show puts on humiliating Akane. I'm not ready to drop it yet, but I'm hanging on with just the promise of more segments like the one with the two youngest kids or the one where all the siblings used their powers in that contest

The show does seem to dump on Akane a lot. In the second episode there is a brief view of the newspaper showing that the surveillance cameras saved a small child. I think the idea is that no matter who wins she will not be able to get rid of them.
