I think the disabled would enjoy the idea of riding a sailing wheelchair that plays a few songs while cruising through the streets.

as a part time wheelchair user (due to chronic pain issues) I have to say I personally find the idea of this EPICALLY AWESOME. it would make having to use one a bit more fun, instead of it just being something to use just so one can function closer to "normal."

I wonder if the sound can be turned off or is on constantly. Scary thought of having the music going everything the wheelchair moved.
On another note, people that use wheelchairs are not disabled. They have a disability. Please do not refer to such people by their disability, it's rude and claims that's all that they are is someone that cannot do anything. |

I as about to write something similar, but was afraid to create an "Subhuman" Flame War. They are still Human's like you. They just can not use their Legs anymore. The Medic still did not found out how to bypass the broken Spine Nerves to make them walking again. |

I'm chair-disabled and don't mind the term, if one can get militant about it. (Just try and take my front-row handicapped seat at the movie theater, you'll live to regret it!)
Having the sails would be nice, but it's hard enough to control a manual chair on hilly territory without worrying about a west-wind blowing out of the east on the mainsail, arrr. It should be pointed out, though that Crypton Media, not Yamaha, should claim credit for Vocaloid technology and Hatsune Miku. Anybody can slap the wires together. |

EricJ2. thank you. The problem with such things today in media is that we are so PC about using terms to describe people. It also can be hard to state one's opinion without being deemed a "phobic" or "hater".

I hope that no one will be offended but this just gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "musical chairs." They may even change the rules to that game for those wheelchairs.
But,on a more serious note,it sounds like it'd be great for kids or anyone that has a disability or anyone that just wants to have a good time. I hope this does come to America so people like EricJ2 can have fun listening to their favorite songs while they're in a wheelchair. This is a really good idea.

Unfortunately, as cool as it would be. I don't think this wheelchair actually sails. 
That said, if I were stuck in a wheelchair, I am not sure I want a giant flag behind me as I go down the street. Particularly as it does nothing for my propulsion. And I wonder how this thing would cope in any sort of wind. |

the idea that wheelchair users can't use their legs can actually be somewhat harmful to wheelchair users that CAN use their legs. a lot of wheelchair users that can stand/walk at least for short periods of time get a lot of judgement for using a wheelchair when people think they don't need it because they see them standing or walking, even if it's only for a moment or two. I myself have gotten harassed for being able to get my own wheelchair out of my chair on my own before, both by able-bodied people and people with disabilities. I spent about 10 minutes at my last job once during a slow spell where a regular who had seen me get my wheelchair out on my own was just totally raging at me and how "fake disabled people like me" were "ruining things for real disabled people like him" because a "real disabled person" wouldn't have been able to do that. I wish the old front end supervisor was there because she would have kicked him out because I was REALLY feeling attacked. and that's where the problem lies, the idea people have that Real Disabled People who need wheelchairs MUST fit a set and rigid criteria. usually that being that they cannot walk at all, sometimes that outside of hobbling for a few short steps they can't walk. (and infuriatingly enough there's an idea that young people can't need wheelchairs or other walking aids too because young people are automatically seen as being healthy, but that's another rant that could get me going for quite a while.) |
