Okay, I can't believe I am saying this...

This is going to be an even more epic trainwreck than Dragon Ball Evolution...didn't know it would be possible until now.

Prove me wrong please

Didn't know this was a thing that was happening. Not a fan of this guy because of that dumb nickelodeon show but I haven't seen his recent stuff.

I surmise they will be going with either a loose adaptation or merely using the basic premise a springboard for other things. Unlike other stories, DEATH NOTE lends itself nicely towards being a concept that you can build many different tales from, so I don't think (at least from the outset…) that I will be too upset if they go into a totally different direction or even build a franchise out of it spoiler[(with different storylines each time?)]. The key to everything, however, will be execution, and that will remain to be seen, given Hollywood's track record.

As for "Light", Wolff (if he signs on) has a good, unassuming look to him, which would befit a Light-like character. Hope he pans out well.

All I want to know is: Who is this being made for and why is this being made?

Death Note is a great concept regardless of whether or not you like anime/manga. That's why it's a gateway series for so many people. It has potential to be a big hit if it's well made. The Hollywood adaptation of All You Need Is Kill gave me hope that Hollywood can do good adaptations of Japanese properties when they want to. I haven't seen this actor in anything so can't really say whether he's a good or bad choice but I won't dismiss the project straight away.

It's not made for anime/manga fan. Essentially there just poaching a popular concept, that way they can be reasonably certain that its a good concept so they feel like there's less risk involved. Most people who will watch this (they hope) won't have experienced death note so there won't be comparison.

That LN turn into a movie with Tom Cruise(can't remember the name atm), prove that importing story from japan and adapting them can work.

All you need is kill/Edge of tomorrow.

One the one side im glad a japanese LN that i was a fan of did well, on the other hand it did well while (and maybe because of) taking away everything that was kind of japanese so it makes feel that a good concept works everywhere but a manga-like japanese concept still wont work well (or that´s what studios think at least).

Looks like the live-action Death Note conversation has come full circle. Again. And again...

And enough with the Zac Efron comments already. The guy's passed all grown up now. He barely even looked young enough to be in college for that one movie a year or so ago. He's a full-carded adult. Move on.

I'll say it again: Death Note would probably make a better American television series than one or a series of movies.
