The question isn't "what if" it's when this turns out not good

Don't worry it's an anime live-action movie so it has a 95% chance of being back-burnered for a decade and then quietly scrapped once everyone's forgotten it was even announced anyway. Razz

What is there to be scared of? If it turns out poorly, ignore it. It will not poison the whole franchise. If it turns out well, or even recognizable, enjoy. The existing manga and all anime versions will continue to exist regardless of the quality of the live action production. No need to panic now.

Maybe my statement was a little overboard. The movie hasn't even been made yet. I just don't wanna see what happened with DB Evolution happen to Ghost in the Shell.

Or any other anime for that matter... Confused

Go and apply!

It could be the next sci-fi after The Edge of Tomorrow / All You Need is Kill!

Didn't hurt DBZ's popularity any less. Ghost in the Shell has even less to lose than DBZ.

I'm a little concerned that Disney has their hands in this at all and I am wondering if it will change anything. I already know that Disney takes part of other projects and does own the licensing rights for most of Marvel's movies. I am just a little nervous that Disney has any part of this, probably due to the original animated film back in the 90s. I don't know if Disney would want to be part of something that graphic (referring to the 90s animated film).

I highly doubt Disney's involvement will have any effect on the content of the film itself.

Hey, I live in New Zealand. If I had some guts I'd go to this casting call.

Casting extras is one of the last few things you do so its deffo going ahead. Kind of cool it's being filmed in wellington. Wonder if that means that Weta Digital are involved?

Anyway .. it it's bad then you can just ignore it. If it turns out good then it may drive further investment in some awesome Japanese franchises.

I'm looking forward to this, as being a huge fan of gits since mid 90s, I'm genuinely excited.

Mary McGlynn needs to dub over Scarlet Johannson's "acting" to make it actually sound like the Major. Ditto for Richard Epcar, Crispin Freeman and William Fredrick Knight as whoever's playing Batou, Togusa and Aramaki respectively.

The same thing applies to the Japanese, but given that Aramaki has never had a consistent JP voice, I would suggest getting Mugihito to play him. I want the 1995 VAs, so Atsuko Tanaka, Akio Otsuka and Koichi Yamadera.

I'd argue the opposite. If GitS is a franchise with a smaller reputation to work with, something as big as a movie starring Scarlett Johanson failing will likely ruin the global view of the series even more.

It's not like DBZ where there's already this large fanbase for the franchise and it wouldn't matter whether the film flopped or not, this might seriously soil the GitS branding which is a shame when you look at stellar works like the original manga, Oshii's 1995 film and SAC.
