Anyone know if it's eligible for an Oscar?

Watched the trailer on their site, looks like a bit of a cross between a Rene Laloux/Fantasia kind of visual porn and AI. I'll watch it for sure, but not looking forward to it much (same way I am with The Life Aquatic and 2046). I'm also really tired of scifi remakes of Pinocchio, as I remain convinced that true artificial intelligence is impossible. So there's really no way in hell that I'll be able to buy it if A Tree of Palme tries to go all philosophical on me. And since Fantastic Children hasn't convinced me on Nakamura as a director (fun, but nothing special) I'm sensing disappointment all over.

I'm seriously wondering about the animation, though. Takashi Nakamura as an animator has done some of the most beautiful, subtle, and expressive character animation I've ever seen, but it seems like whenever he directs something he goes for really simplified designs and lip flaps. Then again, I'm just judging this by the trailer, so maybe the actual movie will have better character animation.

pfff. i have seen it and it sux. it's the pinocchio thing plus a bunch of dreamy crap. it drags on for well over two hours. the character designs and the coloring are horrible too. it's a very dry and bland affair. i would go to check it out if they were playing the dub, but it looks like they're not. as far as oscars go, this thing doesn't even come close to the better animated movies like innocence which probably won't even get an oscar nod. Mad
