When i read the plot synopsis for this series on Righstuf a month or two ago, I laughed out-loud for at least two minutes; this plot is so anime that it almost comes across as parody (like the fake "Everyone On Earth But Me is my Little Sister" gag from that one show).

While this is a comedy, it is balanced with some seriousness and is otherwise relatively well executed and so doesn't become a stupid anime cliche' show, though it has plenty of those. The "who's the stranger" angle gets worn fairly thin and I find that to be the main annoyance but while not as good as Please Teacher, I'll definitely get this and I think any fan will want to have it (I'm just a fan, really!). And for once or twice in his career Mr. Bosch doesn't sound like Renton.

I loved the repeated line myself, because the emphasis changed throughout the series. "It's ok if we live together because we could be related" to "It's ok if we fall in love because we could be strangers" to "we could be strangers or we could be related" with the unspoken "what would you want?" between the two girls. I'm also ok with Maika being the steady rock the triangle revolves around- no, that would be a love see-saw with him as the fulcrum point- because he's the constant from the photo, the fraternal male twin... unless there was a version with a real twist ending!

"He's not related to either of them, game on!" What, were you expecting something really different?

What stuck in my mind the most, however, was how contrived this version of the franchise worked out- as the manga adaptation of the VN had a different ending- with spoiler[the one who wanted to run could-pictured literally for some reason- and the one who didn't want to leave had no other place to go anyway. My feeling was that no one was really happy in the end, Karen wanted to be the girlfriend, Miina just wanted a family while Maiku ultimately wanted some peace and quiet.]

Also, the bath scenes are not for fan service, it's Japanese family thing, a "regardless of whatever happens, they are sisters" deal as the two strangers who lived together got closer to one another.

My favorite thing on the show: the dub's "Mr. Mike". It's just so earnest, it's adorable. Maiku-san isn't different enough.

I do plan on getting it, I'm just waiting for the inevitable holiday sale.

Except this predates the first OreImo novel by five years, and it treats the situation seriously instead of fetishizing it.

This is a series where I imported the first volume with the box and CD and whatnot and waited for a set of UK discs to fill it out which never materialized, and has lain forgotten on a shelf somewhere for years. I had seen it fansubbed originally though (another debt I will have to pay off when my boat comes in), and the thing which irritated me the whole way through was that no-one even considered that all three may have been related or even none of them. What if the two in the pool were just neighbours? What if a third sibling was just somewhere else when the picture was taken?
I'd forgotten that this was where I first encountered Yukari Tamura's "Dark Rika"-type voice.

Oh, they are definitely for fanservice. Nude Karen collapsing on Miina's face is one moment that stands out in my memory...

I had a swell time watching Please Twins. On top of watching Miina and Karen vying for Mike's love while finding out if they're truly related to him, I've gotten plenty of laughs from Ichigo concocting all sorts of pranks to startle people in a hapless moment. Smile

it's funny how the story itself actually adresses why they just don't do a DNA test to solve this already (because it's expensive, which is a nice way of not saying there would be no story if they did...).

Also,it's interesting how you bring up about how the anime never explains why the one who is not the twin still had the same photo as them, because the manga adaptation actually explains that she, spoiler[ Miina, is their cousin. In the manga, the three of them were related all along and used to play together when they were small kids and were very close to each other despite them not remembering it since they were too young.
This was revealed by Miina's mother who came to their home to talk about their family and their past. She initially thought Karen was her daughter, which would make Miina the twin and Karen the "winner",changing the ending of the anime version, but later realized she was mistaken and Miina is her daughter, making her the "winner" just like in the anime, with the added fact that she's also the cousin.
And since cousins dating are fine in Japan, this does not become an issue to them...]
.

It's also noteworthy that the LN adaptation actually switched who is the twin and who is not,so if you don't like who Maiku ended up with in both the anime and manga versions, just read the novel to see him hooking up with the other girl spoiler[ (Karen) ]

Definitely a lesser-quality followup to Please Teacher, though enjoyable enough if you don't mind the "we might be related, we might be strangers" soap opera drama. If nothing else, those lines make for a great drinking game to enhance the guilty-pleasure value of the series.

Though I didn't care for how they devolved Matagu from a relatively serious science nerd / UFO nut in Please Teacher to a shameless and somewhat predatory siscon in Please Twins.

Karen and Miina, I assume?

And as often seems to happen with Bang Zoom dubs, there's synergy with the Japanese casting -- both of those roles were played by Ai Shimizu. (See also: Bridget Hoffman and Kikuko Inoue.)

Although it's been a few years since I watched it I recall I liked Please Twins much better than Please Teacher by the time I got to the end of each series. The aspect of this series I found hardest to fathom was how a 16-yr old kid was able to maintain the sense of a stable home life in a decent house (cost of living in make believe Japan can't be that reasonable compared to other make believe civilized urban / suburban areas worldwide) with 2 members of the opposite sex almost in the same age cohort while working 80-hour weeks programming. Dude, you're quite the domesticized angel.

I always felt the repetition about their "situation" was to either reassure the less adventurous anime viewers (parents of, relatives, censorship board) this wasn't a lead in to incest and soft core porn or inform short-term memory induction by heavy pot smoking viewers in between tokes or doses. Everyone else who enjoyed the show basically remained lenient and accepted the premise, stretch or leap of faith that it was.

If you accept the premise that the house was run down and in a small mountain community away from the actual town, it's rental price should have been fairly low, certainly nothing like you see in urban areas. @Mr. Oshawott, I loved Ichigo's change from Please Teacher with her sly Huh,huh, huh and high powered binoculars, etc. @Shiroi Hane And yes, a little fanservice, like Mr. Mike losing his towel in front of Miina was so well staged and acted, but tasteful. Not like the rampant "playful panty shots" in Rosario+Vampire. A fan I met counted 948 shots in the first season alone.

I would like to point out that it isn't just the manga that points out why both girls have the photo despite only one being a relative, though it differs slightly from the manga version. After the credits on ep. 12, you can hear a conversation between Maiku, Karen, and Miina with the photo being shown. spoiler[ Maiku and Karen are telling Miina that even though Karen is the twin, it is actually Miina in the photo. The Miina was actually the twins' neighbor from across the street they were close to. The twins lived in the run down house where Karen found their mother's diary, while Miina's family lived in the house Maiku is currently renting. On the day the photo was taken Maiku and Miina were playing in the pool in Maiku's yard, while Karen was sick and sleeping in the house. So Maiku and Karen tell Miina "That means that even when we were kids, the three of us where together." ]

I'm currently watching Miyuki a show from the early 80's (83-84) with a love triangle involving one of the girls being a long separated sibling living alone together with her brother. I think both know they are not related by blood though. (At the point in the story I'm at it hasn't been made clear that the girl knows- but it's implied she does)

Still, goes to show-- oh yeah, it's been done before and it just won't stop.

though that was the one thing that got me. it definitely didn't make sense for miss Ai to play both roles. sure it worked out fine, though it definitely gave the dub more work to make the tone match perfectly.

the other was that unlike its prequel, this series isnt heavily fanserviced, nor was it ecchi or was entering into the incest brother/sister romance storyline like in Koi Kaze (which was also dubbed by Bang Zoom when Geneon was around) and it could have easily had went into that category for its ending.

if there had been any ecchi type fanservice, then it definitely would give miss walgreen a reason to use an alias. (bosch used one for tengo tenge since that series was the ikkitousen of that time). but there wasnt any of that so i really couldnt see the point unless it was a union/non union thing.

which is probably the reason why more people know about this series, and didn't chuck it off as a spin-off instead of a true sequel.

especially those that don't like the heavy fan-service. however what about the OSM(Original Source Materials)? since its apparent both the anime and manga weren't faithful towards the original source materials, and it wasn't released in the US unlike the manga, there is possibility that it might be more like onegai teacher when it comes to the fanservice.

Anyone remember a series called AyuMayu?

Because this totally sounds like the same thing.

@jr0904

In addition to the Please Twins anime there was a one volume manga and a one volume novel issued in the US. What other source material are you referring to?
