I remember the producer for this boasting that he expected it to earn in the 2 billion range to start and were shooting for a Boy and the Beast or Ghibli kind of reception but it's clear that's not going to happen. Also Anohana had less than half the number of screens this movie did, a fraction of the advertising, benefits and stage greetings and no tie-in with a major idol group like Nogizaka46 that were used at every opportunity to try to illicit viewers. It also didn't have a 5 day holiday to start it's run. Somehow the movie doesn't really feel like it accomplished much and mainly just served as a vehicle for Nogizaka46 and with that much extra advertising and publicity spent on theater screens I wonder how the actual profit margin will compare to Anohana's.

I am more interested in the BD sales than the movie screening gross.

I watched this last night at the LA premiere, it was absolutely beautiful. Way better than anohana imho. Better character development, a moral message, a more realistic story with a better love triangle, better comedy and an ending that was different.

Naruse is waifu material. lol

Well, wouldn't part of AnoHana having less ads and publicity have to do with the TV series that it had prior to the series? There was already a built in audience for that series.

I read a review for this one, that did not have spoilers, and everything that they made mention made it seem like this is right up my alley. Unsure if it will get a theater release in Australia...but I will be definitely buying this movie as soon as I can.

Well I'm not going to tell anyone not to watch it, but for me the constant publicity, trying to tie it to an unrelated idol group and just general self-congratulatory narrative this movie has going with for it's publicity has entirely turned me off of wanting to even bother with it. Sorry but I just hate that sort of stuff and Japan's been really bad for it lately. The egos of some it's entertainment industries producers have grown entirely out of control.

Same here. Shame I won't get an English dub (or even sub release) here in Italy. Gonna have to wait for the Blu-Ray.
