I wonder....while this is mostly a recap film....nearly always when a recap movie has been done it is usually a prelude to more new content that would follow afterword especially after such a long gap after the tv series add.

With 500 new shots and new material...i wonder at the end of the premiere we might get another last exile...cause it seems to me this would a hell of a waste to produce new animation frames as well as re do the animation for a lot of sequences...especially after so much time has passed.

But why? The series bombed after all. Is Last Exile Gonzo's passion project or something? Just let it die already.

Also, if there's anything the series needed, it was more exposition from/regarding the various sides of the conflict, not less of it. Fam's party was always in all the wrong places. All the interesting stuff was happening elsewhere, but was rarely shown.

So they decided to make a movie about the utterly unengaging sequel (it isn´t) and not the well received original Rolling Eyes. Ah typical Gonzo. The biggest takeaway for me is that they still exist.

I found Fam OK at best but why a recap. It'd be cool if they cover the gap between two seasons. Still want to see how Dio survived.

This might be worthwhile if they actually let Claus and Lavie interact with the new characters and play at least a minor role in the plot this time around.

ROD the TV did a phenomenal job of working the original lead in; I wish Fam's crew had followed that as a guideline.

I enjoyed this season, it was "ok" even if it couldn't measure up to the first let alone be as memorable. The overall story was pretty good, but the characters were merely decent - likeable but with not enough character progression built into the story, while the animation (and CG for the ships) and music I thought were great.

It also felt like a sequel unlike the following long-awaited sequel Eureka Seven AO.

Yeah, the timing having waited so long since Fam aired is very odd unless they are coming back with a new installment.

Agreed. That would have been really good if they'd worked them into the story in the second half. If they ever make a third show making Fam older having learned from her experiences here and then combining the two casts properly would have some good potential.

RODTV spoiler:
spoiler[Although I didn't particularly like Joker coming back as the villain. I would have preferred a different twist that led them working with Joker and Wendy against something else, like in the OVAs.]

Yes, I imagine it is. I think it's always been their passion project, it started out as their big original anniversary project after all. I think it did alright.

It sold around 2.8k per volume on average. That's about average.

Cool to see there will be some new animated sequences. I'll check the movie out.

The Fam TV series clearly suffered from production issues, which made some aspects of the show very unclear. It really felt like they had to cut out a lot of plot, and some of the later scenes were poorly animated. They even had three recap episodes, which suggests Gonzo was super behind on the animation. The show could have turned out a lot better if it didn't suffer from this.

I'm guessing they spent the past few years slowly fixing a bunch of scenes for this movie. I hope this movie turns out okay, as I was pretty disappointed by the series in 2011.

At least Fam was animated in HD so Gonzo doesn't have to redo the whole thing like they'd have to with the original series. Maybe all that extra footage will be enough to elevate the show into something less "meh" than it was originally.

I feel like Fam had even more untapped potential than the orignal Last Exile, they just suffered from too much crammed into too few episodes and being way too slow in the middle. Like, the whole second episode was just fantastic and really made me optimistic, as well as later episodes once stuff got underway, but by only being 21 real episodes long, that really hampered their ability to deliver. Fam needed those extra five episodes to bring it to 26, desperately. And a recap film isn't going to fix much unless it's like 5 hours long, and probably all interstitial content.

I'm in the small camp who loved Last Exile, but found the ending to be a bit rushed. Still, there was a lot of padding toward the start, so maybe it would be better to make a movie. If this is the same story with new, better animation, count me in! (The FMA Brotherhood/Hellsing Ultimate approach). But if this is the same story with roughly the same scenes (The Zeta movie trilogy/DBZ Kai approach), then I think I'll take the series.
