Really? It's been awhile since I've seen the original series but I distinctly remember they used a lot of stock footage in the action scenes. Hopefully the new show won't resort to that. |

I don't really understand why it seems like a lot of people are doing this whole "I liked the first series but don't recommend it" thing. It may not be one of the greatest shows of all time, but if you're in the mood for a fantasy war story with some cute humor, lots of kemonomimi, good music, and lots of crazy plot twists at the end, then I'd have no problem recommending it. It's not going to appeal to everybody, but if you like The False Faces so far, it's probably safe to say that you're the kind of person it will appeal to, and recognizing all of the callbacks will just make you enjoy the new series even more. Anyway, I'm really enjoying this. It's easily my favorite show of the season so far -- even more so than everybody's darling, One-Punch Man (which is gorgeous, but the humor falls flat for me about half the time). |

There was some repeated animation (not a lot), but most of what I'm talking about is staging, pacing, direction, etc. Looking back on the show before this sequel aired, I was pretty surprised at how clear the dynamics of each battle were, who was where and doing what and why, etc. It was never just "and they fought and someone narrated how the battle was going" like many similar series of its time. And yeah, a lot of fights went out of their way to have some cool death blows and crowd battles and stuff in there even if there wasn't much animation in other parts of the episode. |

I was never aware of the original series but this seems perfectly fine to me. From what this review and other postings have revealed is that there is really no need to see the prior series to enjoy this one.
And it sounds like it wasn't all that good anyway while what I am seeing now seems worth watching. The artwork is nice and the acting is not half bad. I am not really relating much to the characters yet but they have their moments. I really like the expressiveness of the girls' tails particularly in the fan service scenes. |

First series is definitely worth the watch. No idea why Hope would have any issues with recommending it. Unless of course, the idea of taking a tiny village and growing it into a huge empire by the main character using various means of military strategy to defeat much larger armies does not intrigue you. The action scenes are rather well animated though the heavy use of dated CGI is an eyesore any time there's a large army movement.
Not sure where the idea of Hakuoro's army being mainly female came from either. Did Hope forget about Kurou, Benawi, Dorii, Guraa, Oboro, and Genjimaru? |

Utawarerumono has earned the third place in my anime queue, and I wouldn't be surprised if this one ends up taking the spot of One Punch Man (my second favorite show of the season), since I'm having lots of fun watching this one.
I'm new to the franchise as well, and I hope I don't get spoiles too much about the first series, since I'll most likely watch it once False Faces ends. Haku and Kuon relationship is lovely. After only three episodes, one can feel how much one trusts the other. And the best comedy comes from them too, especially when one of them is taking a bath (I laughes more than I should after the bath scene i the third episode: Haku was so fresh when he saw Kuon naked, the only thing he needed was a pair of "dealt with it" sunglasses). So far, the anime hasn't disappointed me, and I'm really looking forward to watching the next episode. |

I think Kokopo is supposed to be some kind of quail, given her top knot. With maybe a little parakeet and chicken thrown in.
 I hope they'll reveal what the baby's hand (foot?) floating above her in the OP is all about.
Maroro hasn't been entirely useless - his magic did drive off a lot of the centipedes. It just takes him too long to rev it up. However else he ends up serving the story, I just wish he wasn't the device to showcase everyone's homophobia, including the bird's. :/ |

All I hope from this one is that they avoid having cackling (literally for most of them) villians who might as well scream at the top of their lungs they're evil. Which sometimes they did.
The first one had horrible and unintersting antagonists that really only felt like a plot points rather than a charactesr. So far it this one is looking better simply because the protagonists are more interesting so far. Hopefully that carries over to the antagonists. |

One of the things that caught me attention (in a positive way) was how studio White Fox managed to almost replicate the 2006 show's aesthetics pretty accurately, IMO. Having seen clips of the 2006 quite recently, I'm pleased to see that the art style was largely unchanged.

this series is not what i expected..
the 2006 series got my attention at the end of episode 1 (watched the series 3-4x) but this series... after episode 3.. feeling kind of bored with it....  let's hope it will pick up
only 25 episodes .. so get to the point already. |

Being one of those people who aren't familiar with the original series, i am liking this so far. A big part of my enjoyment is that the protagonist is not Mr. Perfect (yet), so i don't think i'll ever be touching the 2006 show. On the downside, it doesn't make much sense (yet) that everybody seems to flock to our pretty flawed and weak MC while simultaneously ridiculing Maroro when their level of uselesness seems to be more or less the same for now...

Episode 3 seemed to have an odd narrative brain fart. spoiler[In the hideout, the bandit boss Mozunu is down on the courtyard when Nosuri tells him their alliance is off and imperial soldiers attack. Immediately we cut back to Haku and his party for a bit. When we cut back to the fight, we see Mozunu looking down at the battle and wondering what's going on. He tries to address Nosuri but she's nowhere to be seen. The whole thing makes no sense unless one assumes they droppend a scene where Mozunu and Nosuri walk away before the fighting starts... but it then wouldn't make sense that Nosuri's brother addresses them directly when he reveals the soldiers in the carts.]

I had to go look at it again, but I think it is some type of bird with a large hat over its head - maybe. 
I have not seen the first series, but I like the artwork in this one. |

Those look like toes to me, but you're probably right that it's a bird's tail. :D I guess if it's a bird, they'll tell us eventually.

While people watching the show probably don't care, the original game was not an RTS (real-time strategy game). It was a turn-based strategy game with your units on a grid taking turns. This is at least the second time Hope's referred to it as one, so I figured it was time to correct her.
