Is this basically a collection of those 'pages' we'd see at the end of each Monster Musume episode? Or is this a completely unrelated property trying to cash in on that series' popularity?

Very surprised. I know that the 18+ material is all in the text, but I never expected them to license an encyclopedia.

I'm pretty sure it's significantly older. Even if it wasn't, it portrays a medieval fantasy type of world rather than an urban fantasy and is the base of the world of Monster Girl Quest (though it's not exactly the same).

OH my Goodness.....HAHAHA...This book is old....even older than monster musume as it pre dates it..if anything okaydo got inspiration from it...this is basically more or less a encyclopedia of the majority of monster girl types that have been created from various sources such as existing monster and legends.... as well as fantasy monster types..as well as some based on certain tropes and themes....

You can tell that the a new era of monster girl fandom has really started to take form in the otaku world....now more than ever.

I look at the monster girl encyclopedia wiki and the monster musume online game and I think Okayado is coping some of monster girl encyclopedia work because some of the new monster for monster musume online game is looking an awful like the monster girls from monster girl encyclopedia check it out for yourself on the monster girl encyclopedia wiki.

Seven Seas doesn't just have Monster Musume, it also publishes A Centaur's Life, and Nurse Hitomi's Monster Infirmary (where the title character is a sexy cyclops), so this "Encyclopedia" is right in their wheelhouse.

I don't think I've seen art from this particular "Encyclopedia", but I've seen other similar such "Encyclopedias" where the "Encyclopedia" is really just an thin premise for them to present gorgeous poster-style art of moé girls representing some kind of concept, historical figure, weapon, or other items, so I presume this one is more of the same. Since I like centaur girls (don't judge me), I might pick this one up, heh.

Wow, did not think this would be released in English. Trust me, I've seen a few of the pages they've released online, this is not the light-hearted fanservice you find in Monster Musume. It's a lot more hardcore.

This is gonna be a tough sell for brick-and-mortar stores I bet. Barnes and Noble could probably stock it in most states without complaint. Books-a-Million tends to be a bit more conservative so I doubt they will.

Now this is a surprising release, though an obvious fit for Seven Seas now.

This news is absolutely shocking considering the author's views on the fandom outside Japan.

Let me try and clarify here. The author, Kenkou Cross only intended for the MGE to be released for Japanese audiences only and he pretty much loathed the international community because they tried to over analyze his world and the creatures that reside within. Despite that, however, he did allow them to translate his pages (basically, whenever a new monster girl was released) and tried his best to keep a level head about things.

Unfortunately, a certain few members of the community not only ripped his work, but proceeded to make some rather unsightly and sometimes gory photoshopped images of his monster girls. This pissed him off something fierce and caused him to distance himself from the international community even more.

I almost forgot about that incident. I assume Seven Seas offered him a lot of money, and he changed his mind after that. Judging from Seven Seas' blog post, it seems to be very much a passion project rather than something that's too likely to be profitable, so I can imagine Seven Seas giving into somewhat unreasonable demands if they had to.

I'm actually curious as to how well the various monster girl manga are selling. A niche needs more than just one really well selling franchise (Monster Musume) to do well.

I'm only surprised because of the maturity of the content, otherwise it's an obvious pick yeah.

In Canada, Chapters/Indigo sells similar Japanese art books, when they get a domestic release, in the manga section. Or at least they have them in stock, most of them seem to stay on the shelves so far as I can tell.

I'm lucky enough to have an anime bricks-and-mortar store nearby, though, in case this is too tawdry for Chapters, although I doubt Chapters will have a problem with it.
