Yeah, those are pretty much my feelings (though I'd actually have to rate it higher overall than the 3rd DxD season due to the last 3 episodes of that completely dragging it down). I would have much rather seen a second season of Hagure Yuusha. The next arc for that steps it up considerably and has a lot of development for quite a few characters.

I don't dislike Testament, but it does lend itself to comparisons to DxD which is the better series and I think for the most part the characters in Testament are less interesting than those in Hagure (well aside from Maria who is awesome and Mio and Miu being basically the same).

Well, after this second season i can say that Testament is much better than DxD, i agree when you said that this serie is good because it stay close to what worked in the first iteration.

Hopefully they will announce the third season if there is enought material to work on.

Oh, and BD version is mandatory with a serie like this, the tv censorship was awfull and covered 3/4 of the whole screen.

Must admit, I had fun watching Burst. Possibly even more so than the first season since it didn't have the awkward character introductions & the master-servant thing has now got so absurd that any lingering uneasiness about it has gone.

I somewhat disagree about Mio. She does play second fiddle throughout most of the season, but it's her OP demon power that wins the day in the two major battles, not Basara's. Her & Basara do have the typical "I must get stronger so I can save her from herself" dynamic that make fantasy light novel adaptations such a chore, true. At the end of the day, though, she's still the one who saved the day more than he did this time, which is enough to stand out from all the other fantasy light novel adaptations this year, at least. At least it didn't end with her losing control of her powers, or getting captured/beaten by the bad guys & having to be saved.

That said, the first three episodes of a 10 episode season were pretty pointless & the last few a rushed mess, I assume because they started production expecting to have 12 episodes. Most of the returning cast are only there so they can get their tits/ass/ears groped before going backstage to wait for the next ecchi scene. The production quality started out low & got worse as the series progressed. Can't disagree with anything the reviewer says, really. I just prefer this kind of crappy fantasy light novel adaptation to the Absolute Dross & Snowflake War ones.

I have to agree. I know people have complained in the past about the constant comparisons to DxD but it sets itself up for those comparisons. It practically begs for them. If you're going to obviously borrow elements from another show you really need to make sure you do at least as good of a job as the that other show, if not better Testament does not. Even amping up the T&A factor falls short thanks to Valkyrie Drive being in the same season. If you had to pick between excessive amounts of T&A bordering on being soft core hentai VD has Testament beat. Thorw in Asterisk War for good measure and you in the past 2 seasons have a plethora of T&A titles with Testament doing not much to stand out from the mix. Chivalry of a Failed Knight and Danmachi gave early impressions of being in the same mix but as the shows went on veered from that path. Both went on to become much more than simple T&A shows. If Testament is going to continue to just be all about T&A it's got to at least do something different to stand out.

Maybe the problem is that I only watched ~8 episodes of VD, but for T&A anime, I think I'd have to go with Burst. If all I wanted from a T&A anime was the T&A then I would just go watch hentai or porn. I think the other elements that hold the T&A together are essential to the quality of a T&A show.

VD failed imo because it didn't have anything else going to keep it interesting. It just dragged on for way too long, and while I heard it does pick up at the very end, a decent ending can't save a show filled with 2/3 or more dumb fluff. Burst had a slowish start, but VD's was 3x longer. More importantly, Burst actually starts going somewhere reasonably quickly (2-3 is a bit long but reasonable, over half the season is extremely excessive). I find the fights in Burst not only better done, but more interesting because they are (for the most part) actually important where as from what I saw in VD the fights are mostly just over silly squabbles so they have absolutely no weight.

There is also the fact that Burst likely cut a bunch of T&A scenes from the TV broadcast again and that it didn't air uncensored anywhere. I think if you really want to hand VD the T&A crown for the year, you need to compare it to the full version of Burst.

I have said it since the first episode... This anime is a cheap knock-off of High School DxD. The one thing it does "better" than DxD is the explicitly of the sexual interactions (DxD can do this but I kinda like the whole tease thing. Also, These types of anime could go the SAO route and just basically acknowledge that sex happened without having to show it since Kadokawa strictly forbids sex in these types of animes/manga/LNs).

Don't get me wrong... I did "enjoy" BURST but after researching and seeing that the author came out with "his original" work 3 years after DxD was first published it leads me to think that he just wanted to bank on something that was making really good money at the time (At one point DxD was selling upwards of 600k total LNs per year).

To Love-Ru is much funnier and has a better story. DxD wipes the floor with it. Even Cross Ange does sex better than Shinmaou!

Uh, no. Not only does Cross Ange have breasts without nipples, when Ange and Tusk are laying naked next to each other, they're clearly lacking the rest as well. Not that not seeing explicit stuff is why it is worse, but openly showing them as the equivalent of ken and barbie dolls pretty much puts it at the bottom of the barrel.

In all honesty, I prefer this over High School DxD. It's obviously gonna be seen as an overlooked series in the future. I can even understand why people can say that it's stuck in DxD's shadow, but that doesn't necessarily make it a carbon copy. In the end, I still prefer Testament because of the character interactions and how it used fan service to forward the story. Very few series can pull this off right.

Also, I definitely prefer MIo over Rias.
