Last year the release on PSN of Dark Cloud, and now Dark Chronicle. Are we getting an announce of Dark Cloud 3 development later this year? Perhaps at E3?

Doubt it. Sony are just releasing the easiet games as PS2 classics at the moment. (i.e) anything they published in NA/EU.

For anyone who hasn't somehow played this, this is an awesome awesome game. The first game is merely ok, but the second game is where it's at. I was quite pleased at the inclusion of mini-golf in the dungeons, which helped break up the dungeon crawling (if you so chose) and helped break up some of the monotony there. Also useful for breaking up pure dungeoning is the town building, I rather wish more games had distractions. The dungeons are fine and combat is good and all, but I'd be lying if I said distractions weren't good. Also, putting more skills onto fewer characters was also nice, instead of 6 where you only used maybe two and everyone else was just there to annoy you during random floor locks. Also, I don't remember any boss being La Saia levels of ridiculous difficulty, so that's nice too.

I'll be the first to admit though: the game is incredibly "guide dang it", particularly in two areas. First, is the invention thing (the number of times I almost died during a boss fight to get its special picture for inventing, I cannot count, and that picture is taken during one of its attacks so just taking a pic of it when you encounter it doesn't quite work), so both for things to take pictures of (those boss fights are all missable photos btw), and for figuring out what to combine with what, as it's not exactly the most intuitive thing tbh.
And secondly, getting hang of properly leveling up weapons, which involves killing with a better weapon, then harvesting the experience with a lower weapon. After a certain amount of levels, weapons just seem to hit this leveling plateau, which is not good for adding elements to them if they almost never level up. So, the idea is to put a bunch of elements on a weaker weapon, then combine them (which makes a new level 1 weapon, which can also be leveled up and have more elements added). It's not as complicated as it sounds once you get used to it, honestly. But if you don't make an attempt to learn the system well, you'll also start to find the game to be ridiculously difficult starting partway in the second dungeon.
Then, figuring out which weapons to combine to get the ultimate weapon you want is also very guide-worthy (though easy to picture, once you've gotten the weapon leveling system down)

Still, I played this game a few years ago, well after it came out, and I was just all over it like it was a new game! That was a fun several weeks there! Skip the first if you want, but if you want a fun action RPG, get this one!

It's less story oriented, but Dark Cloud 1 is a LOT of fun. I wouldn't suggest skipping it. Play 2 first if you want, but I've spent a LOT of hours on 1 in my life. It is a great game. Dark Cloud 2 is just an amazing game. That's all.

Don't you hate that when they have all this concept art and never do anything with it.

Glad to know this is happening.

Is it that worthwhile?

Cause honestly after playing through and beating it I really wasn't that enthused about playing it again. Game was rather boring and dull from start to finish.

Remembering the how it was for the first game it sounds exactly as complicated as it sounds

I'd say no. 1 has aged pretty badly. The combat is way too simple and repetitive. 2 on the other hand has aged extremely well. Improved in just about every way and still worth playing.

Yes. The beginning of the game is a bit slow, but things pick up after the first village. While I do agree Dark Chronicle is the better game, if you're looking for a great game to spend lots of hours on, this is one of them. Especially in a gaming industry that no longer produces JRPGs like this and as good as this, in my opinion.
