I still have some mixed thoughts about the show but the third episode convinced me to watch more especially now that they are really focusing on the sports' aspect side of the story.
I agree that Fujiwara looks and even has a similar personality compared to Haru from Free. Although based on the show so far, I kinda like the competition side more. |

Episode #1-3:
It feels like this show has taken a few pointers from the art style and gameplay of the game Mirror's Edge; namely the prominent usage of blue and the way the shadows look (and, of course, the parkour itself). I found the show's BGM to be quite pleasant and mostly scene-appropriate; it never felt as if it clashed with the atmosphere that the scenes tried to create. The animation during the Strides is stunning and bright; I like it. |

Free! was more of a slice of life show with sports on top while Prince of Stride seems to go straight for the standard sports anime plot with the once-famous-now-underdogs team on their way to Nationals (or whatever the Stride equivalent might be...). What both shows definitely have in common is that the fanservice aimed at females isn't (supposedly) "accidental" like in most other sports anime. I very much appreciate that, of course.
Since i'm not a huge fan of sports anime in particular, i enjoy the fact that it's not about baseball, basketball or anything ball for once, but still a teamsport that is very dynamic and fun to watch. So i'm not expecting to be blown away by this show, but it's been pretty good entertainment so far and i hope it'll be able keep that up. |

This is not a sports anime. It's a boys idol/model song-and-dance fujoshi (and fudanshi) pandering bait-show that wears a veneer of having a non-existent sport made up of elements of some sports to make it look cool but looks more dodgy that a week-old soggy rotted hot dog.

You sound bitter. Personally, I'm super excited to start watching Stride because of the cast alone. So many great seiyuu are in this. I don't even care if it's dumb. It's pretty and looks fun and the voices are great. |

Stride’s based on an otome game, although reviewers said the game story reads more like a sports anime, and the romantic elements felt more secondary. Reception was mixed – some liked this different approach, while some hated it because it wasn’t romantic enough.

That's why this is a fangirls' bait... Since they are already lacking the plot quality, they went for the cast quality instead, using the popularity of the seiyus. It doesn't take much thought to see that this series is one of the more mediocre titles this season and of course, it's a hurting fact for those who are actually enjoying the show. |

This really sums up my impressions of Prince of Stride so far. Although comedy is really hit or miss, I still had enough fun from the silly faces the characters usually make. The modeling sequence from episode 2 was great, too. And the whole "Stride" thing seems like something I would practice if I had the opportunity to. Although I would like some little development from any of the guys, especially Takeru and Riku, I wouldn't mind if the show only focuses in the sport itself, because watching it is really fun. |

Actually, it's based on a sport that does exist called parkour, but you can call it an impossibility if you want to
Also, although the game is otome, Madhouse is marketing it as sport and not playing into the otome elements from the game, which makes it a sports anime because that's what Madhouse has decided to do with it. The characters are kind of all over the place, but the rest still stands. |

You quoted the wrong person. In any case, that's one of the things that kinda piss me off about all this. Why can't they do like "Bouei-bu" last year and have a nice cast, funny trope-play and overall okay content for its genre (even when it is blatantly fanservice-ish/fujoshi-bait)? Or like Prison School (in a male counterpart). So far, even the main theme (the sport part) is kinda lacking imo. Anyway, let's see what can they do in the other 8 episodes remaining. |

This is Madhouse trying to go after the female demographic by having sporty guys doing sports and having them all voices by guys the ladies love. It's a bold attempt, but a part of me doesn't want it to succeed too much.

No, I think its the publisher of the game its based on going after the female demographic... which they probably have been doing for a while. |

As someone who practices parkour, I was really excited for this show; but by the third episode I found myself checking periodically to see how much more was left to go.
The cast interactions, conflicts and banter feel very forced, and - being a sports anime - it's rather crucial to nail this aspect as it will take up a lot of the run-time (if you'll excuse the pun). But hey, if it's not exactly going to be winning gold medals (sorry, I'll stop) for the writing, I thought at least we'd get some great action sequences out of it. What I expected was an obstacle course version of relay. As of episode 3 it seems to be more like people running in straight lines and round corners with a straight-forward hurdle here and there, then when someone actually uses parkour, it's seen as outlandish and unexpected, a novelty worthy of shouting "shortcut!" in Engrish. I dunno, I'll keep watching for the moment, but I feel quite dissapointed. |
