Probably not, since idolmaster is currently incredibly successful and he didn't blow millions just to feed his own ego. He's most likely stepping down to found his own studio.

This seems to be the way to handle a departure on "Good Terms". Hoping Ishihara-sensi finds that perfect IP and gets to bring it to fruition.

How does this affect the franchise in general? Will we notice any problems in the short term? or perhaps in the long run?

I wouldn't worry seeing as they just announced the new game recently.

I would leave too when the PS4 game is looking like another remake with same old cast and not utilizing the popularity of the cast from the mobile games. The console side of the the franchise is stagnant right now and it's all because they haven't changed the cast for either the Million Live or Cinderella Girls cast and they haven't done much to breath new life into the games that aren't mobile only. The Gundam franchise has Gundam Breaker which breathed new life into the gaming side of the franchise, NB also has the market for mecha customization at the moment, there hasn't been an announcement for another Armored Core since Verdict Day, Assault Gunners and Damascus Gear were too little known to make an impact like Gundam Breaker or Armored Core. It's time Idolm@ster had a title that breathes new life into the gaming side of the franchise.

What he should do is make an original idol sim games to compete with this franchise, so NB can get their head out of the sand and start giving the games new life.
