This is not the work of Lupin. He was busy making prank calls to the police at the time.

Sadly vandalism like this happens every weekend in german cities. Everything that's not solid or properly fixed gets destroyed by rampaging drunk teenagers.

Perhaps this could be the work of someone that's tired of Sazae-san's lifetime-running show and decided to express his frustration through a destructive manner?

Looking at that picture, those statues look rather flimsy and fragile. They could'be been bent or knocked over by accident.

This most likely wasn't the case. If it was by accident, generally speaking in Japan, the culprit would have go to the police and state it was an accident. Most likely was broken on porpoise as vandalism.

Really? Is there no punishment for confessing this sort of thing if it was an accident? I'm used to seeing people quietly walk away when they damage something by accident and pretend nothing ever happened.

The accident might not have even involved people though. Maybe a large animal had come by and played rough with the statues. Maybe strong winds knocked them over.
