Huh. This seems interesting. It looks a Harlequin type story. Those are best Josei manga I've ever read. The romantic stories are just so beautifully and using a mangaka for the art is a good idea.

I'm guessing that this is one of her early works, as Iris Johansen was originally known as a romance novelist. Then by the 90s or so, she turned around, and started writing action/adventure novels with women as the main protagonists (Eve Series, Catherine Ling Series, etc.). Perhaps later, someone might take the chance, and turn one of her later books into a manga series.

This isn't really unusual. It happens with a lot of romance novelists, and a lot of the borderline paranormal romances. But I'm glad she got to see her work in manga form. I hope she liked the artist they picked.

I remember 'A Time to Kill'. Probably pass on this. The formula doesn't seem to have changed. I'm not a fan of pursuing the backstories of minor character archetypes across the span of several novels, although I can't deny that it sells. I too wish her good luck, but like Anita Blake, just not interested.

It's interesting that, in Japan, Harlequin Romance novels are turned into manga and it's a solid seller. I've always wondered why ANN rarely touched upon how much josei manga there is out there, especially those that were derived from Harlequin books. Up until a couple of hours ago, I had no idea that the Utena mangaka, Chiho Saito, went on to do a lot of Harlequin Romance manga. Some of her work was once featured in Be Boy Gold magazine. I always figured she fell off the face of the earth as we never heard since Utena's heyday.
