I thought that some of the things that happened in this movie gave it a slight "alternate version" feel. Is that just me? Well either way it was really good and a must have if you already own the rest of the series. RahXephon is definitely in my top 2 fav series.

No, I felt the same way after the scene where:

spoiler[ Ayato is asked the reason for his still staying and continuing to pilot RahXephon, and while I don't remember the exact line, I do remember it being a different reply than what he said in the series.]

I think that's where the movie stopped the recap of sorts and started picking up it's "alternate storyline," in my opinion.

I also felt that it was a little different.

Now I must add. Is it just me or do a lot of movies based off of series tend to be different, and somtimes have slightly altered storylines.

It IS different, and is supposed to be. It's a an "alternate" retelling from Haruka's perspective, and yes, quite a bit was changed, although none of the changes were incredibly signifigant.

That's a very common thing to do, at least from what I've noticed. I believe most anime movies may carry over characters and the knowledge of events and/or other people you might've seen from the series, but for the most part, since anime movies have so little time to cram everything in, they usually just make them stand alone stories that usually have no purpose for the overall continuity of a title.

Just look at the DBZ, Escaflowne, Inu Yasha, or Cowboy Bebop movies. You'll notice while they may mention a few things you've seen or heard of in the series, their movie plots usually have very little or nothing to do with the respective central storylines from the series.

I dunno, it seemed like Quon being handled entirely differently was significant.

As for comments in other posts, in my experience the best movies based on series are either continuations of the story in the series (such as with the first Tenchi Muyo movie) or complete rewrites of the original series story (as in the case of the Escaflowne movie). This one is neither. I apparently got less absorbed in the romance and was bothered more by the choppy editing than Mr. Santos; I would haved rated it 1-2 steps lower in most categories.

It was significant but not incredibly so. Nor did it really do much to alter the main story.

I was disappointed by the movie. First of all, it's like a Best Of album by a band that isn't really about singles. Cool scenes are removed from their full narrative context, and I can't imagine a newcomer to the story being very satisfied with the resulting narrative mishmash. The new material seemed like Fanfiction Theatre, and Quon seemed to be included only because the creators knew the fans would riot if they left her out. I imagine newcomers watched the film wondering why she was in there at all.

Actually, the Cowboy Bebop movie fits in between episodes 22 and 23, apparently. (It's been a while, though, and those episode numbers could be one or two off the actual episode.) The movie is a stand-alone story, but it's in the official continuity.

I know, but my point was about the story. Most anime movies do that (not carrying much continuity for series' central plot), but it just so happens the Bebop series is episodic too, so it probably wouldn't matter either way you look at it, I suppose Razz.
