I heard mixed thoughts about his latest film but did enjoy some of his other works. New challenges huh?

Yeah, heard mixed things, but it is refreshing to hear he's working on something new. hopefully he pairs with that writer that helps him out so much.

Lets just hope it isn't another family film that gives the bird to any sense of mature taste and decides to twist it with some fantasy mumbo jumbo that isn't relatable in the slightest. Cause after Summer Wars he's now trapped in a repetitive style similar to Makoto Shinkai's films taking on themes of distant love and loss. At least the latter tried something different ala Children Chase Lost Voices and has a good reputation on using clever framing. But we'll wait and see for Hosoda.

I'd like to see him do an adaptation like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time again. I think his directorial sense is great, but he needs someone to help him write and script his works, because he doesn't seem to have much of a grasp on subtlety. And just give him material that is more suited to a mature audience, rather than being a straight-up kids movie.

I'd be surprised if someone as high-profile as him wasn't immediately working on something else. He releases a movie about once every two years, so that's what I had guessed.

Good to hear he's working on another project! I love all his movies, although I haven't seen Boy and the Beast yet... Just hope he's not rushing things and takes his time, so he can polish up the movie to be as good as it can be.

Hosoda should work harder now that he is the new Miyazaki (Japan's number 1 animation film director in box office and critical praise). Try making 2 movies in 2 years like Miyazaki did with Totoro and Kiki.

I have no problem with "kids" movies since Japanese children's stuff is complex enough for adults to enjoy.

I hope he does something without furries, for a change.

Well the girl who leapt through time doesn't have any that I recall.

Plus, furries are like his signature , there seems like there has to be one some where in his movies.

I really enjoyed this movie, maybe not as much as Summer Wars, but at least it didn't leave me questioning the decisions of characters like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time did.

I knew it was going to be a matter of time before ANN would get the news.

Yeah, I had the chance to see 'BaTB' during the first screening at the NYICFF. Yeah, Hosoda couldn't make it, I learned after asking the festival coordinators. But on the day of the film they did mention to everyone that he was working on his next film. This is probably the first time so far that he missed an attendance. But I'm curious to know what the premise of his next film is going to be.

I haven't seen his other movies, but I loved Boy and the Beast as did my girlfriend and the buddy I saw it with. I'm excited to watch his older ones now and also to see what's he has in store for us next.
