This is an example of what I love about animation as a medium, talented artists drawing by hand to produce moving art which can tell a story and convey emotions completely without words. I just hope some die-hard purists don't blast Studio Ghibli for "cheapening a national treasure" or some such.

Charming commercial, and as usual the Ghibli quality shines through even in such a short span of time. The shuttering of Ghibli's main production wing really is a huge loss not only for the anime industry but Japanese film as a whole.

Well said! I love the visuals, and I think the animators maintained the integrity of the original work very well.

@PercivaI: Interspecies relationship are somewhat common in anime and manga. I wonder how they animated it because, to me, it looks like they took the actual scrolls but it was probably a photo then they did their animation magic.

I'm sure it's not that hard to replicate the original source (I'm sure they had photos of the scroll to use).
