The official Twitter account for the Valkyrie Drive multimedia project announced on Friday that the Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid- television anime series will premiere on October 10 at 11:30 p.m. on AT-X. The show will then premiere on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, and TV Aichi on October 12, and then on BS11 on October 17.
The "beautiful girl sexy battle action" anime is set on five artificial islands. A girl named Mamori Tokonome is transferred to one of those islands, "Mermaid." When Mamori is attacked, a newly transferred girl named Mirei saves her. The enemy doesn't stop, however, and the two are soon cornered. Just when they think all hope is lost, Mirei kisses Mamori, and Mamori turns into a sword. Mirei then wields the sword and launches a counterattack against their enemies.
Senran Kagura creator Kenichirō Takaki and Hiraku Kaneko (Maken-Ki! Battling Venus 2, The Qwaser of Stigmata, Manyū Hiken-chō) are helming the project. Kaneko is directing and designing characters at the studio ARMS. Yousuke Kuroda (Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Jormungand, Hayate the Combat Butler) is in charge of series composition. GENCO is producing the series.
Hitomi Harada will perform the show's opening theme song "Overdrive," and Yuka Iguchi and Mikako Izawa will perform the ending theme song "Ultra Super Hyper Miracle" as their characters Mirei and Mamori, respectively.
