Discotek Delays Arpeggio of Blue Steel Release, Adds Blu-ray Disc

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

North American anime distributor Discotek Media announced on October 9 that it is delaying its DVD release of the Arpeggio of Blue Steel (Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio) anime. However, the release will now include a Blu-ray Disc as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. Discotek did not provide a new date for the release.

The release was previously slated for October 27.

In the story, humanity lost much of its developed land due to global warming in the first half of the 21st century. Then, a "Fleet of Fog" loaded with super weapons suddenly appears all over the world. Without the ability to withstand this fleet, humanity was defeated and could no longer travel the seas. 17 years after the devastating naval war, Gunzō Chihaya (played by Kazuyuki Okitsu) and his friends somehow commandeer a "Fleet of Fog" submarine named I-401. Together with Iona (I-401's "mental model" or physical incarnation in humanoid form, played by Mai Fuchigami), they take on the "Fleet of Fog."

The 2013 anime series adapted Ark Performance's science-fiction manga of the same name. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. The anime inspired a compilation film titled Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova DC, which premiered in Japan on January 31. The show also inspired a sequel anime film titled Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova Cadenza, which premiered in Japan on October 3.

Update: Discotek Media is working with Crunchyroll on the home video release of the series. Thanks, NJ_.
