A spokesperson for the public relations department of the company Nexon told the IT Media news website on Thursday that the return of the Kemono Friends smartphone app "is possible." The spokesperson added, "As of right now, there has been no decision made."

Nexon CFO Shirō Uemura stated at an earnings report meeting on February 10 that there were no plans to continue the app. His full statement is as follows:

We hear the anime that is airing is very popular, but circumstances now are different from what we were dealing with last year. There's also the issue of timing, but when we initially invest in a game, we consider developments while we're looking at the daily KPI [key performance indicators]. At that time there were no plans to continue. There might be something if we maybe launched now, but in the end we consider this a completed title.

The spokesperson for the public relations department told IT Media regarding the above statement, "[The statement's] meaning was for the end of service [of the app], and nothing has changed since then regarding any discussion on whether or not to restart [the app]."

The original app ended service on December 14, before the anime premiered on January 10. The anime ended on Saturday. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.

The staff of the Kemono Friends anime announced on Wednesday that a "new video project" has been green-lit for the franchise.

Nexon launched the smartphone game last year. In the RPG, animals around the world have transformed into girls and players could recruit them into their party for battle.
