Surreal 4-Panel Manga Pop Team Epic's 'Crappy' Anime Teased With New Visual

posted on by Egan Loo

The official Twitter account for the anime of Bkub Ōkawa's Pop Team Epic manga unveiled a new visual on Sunday to celebrate the anime news. The visual features the two main leads Popuko and Pipimi.

The surreal four-panel manga centers around two 14-year-old girls, the short Popuko and the tall Pipimi. The story summary on the anime's website quotes William Shakespeare's Tweflth Night play, "There is no darkness but ignorance."

The self-described "crappy anime" will launch in October, and Kamikaze Douga is animating. The tagline on the website's earlier visual reads, "Remember, Takeshobo …."

Ōkawa launched the manga on Takeshobo's Manga Life Win website in 2014, and Takeshobo published one volume in print in 2015. The manga (and its characters) have since become popular not only in Japan but also overseas.
