Viz Media Europe to Present A Silent Voice, Yo-Kai Watch Movies at Cannes Film Market

posted on by Karen Ressler

Viz Media Europe announced on Wednesday that it will present the anime films A Silent Voice and Yo-kai Watch: The Movie at the Cannes Marché du Film (Film Market) in conjunction with the Cannes Film Festival. A Silent Voice will screen on May 19, May 22, and May 23 in Japanese with English subtitles. Screening dates for Yo-kai Watch: The Movie have not been announced.

Naoko Yamada and Kyoto Animation's A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) anime film is based on Yoshitoki Ōima's manga of the same name. Anime Limited screened the film in the United Kingdom and Ireland in March. Viz Media Europe acquired the rights to distribute the film in the European Union, Russia, Turkey, and French-speaking African countries. It will screen at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Yo-kai Watch: The Movie is the first film for the Yo-kai Watch franchise. The film premiered in Japan in December 2014, and Level-5 and Eleven Arts screened an English-dubbed version in the United States in October.

The Cannes Marché du Film, a trade market event where companies can buy and sell film rights or shop to networks, will run from May 17-26. The main Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 17-28. Shinichiro Kimura's 2010 anime film Junod will screen as part of the event's Animation Day on May 23.
