Jūni Taisen Anime Reveals New Silhouette Visual, Cast Announcement Plans

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

Avex Pictures revealed a new silhouette image on Sunday for the upcoming television anime adaptation of writer Nisioisin (Monogatari Series, Medaka Box) and illustrator Hikaru Nakamura's (Saint Young Men, Arakawa Under the Bridge) light novel Jūni Taisen: Zodiac Warriors.

The company also revealed that it will host a cast reveal online event on Monday. Starting on Monday at midnight JST, the official website for the anime will reveal one cast member, character design, and character profile for each of the 12 main cast members, once every two hours throughout the day on Monday. Each of the 12 cast members represents one of the signs of the Chinese Zodiac, and each sign also represents a two-hour time block (e.g., the time of the Rat is 11:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m., etc.).

Avex Pictures has been releasing new information for the anime on the 12th of each month. Last month, the company revealed background images for the anime.

The anime will premiere this year.

Naoto Hosoda (The Devil is a Part-Timer!, Shuffle!) is directing the series at Graphinica (Chain Chronicle: The Light of Haecceitas, Expelled from Paradise). Sadayuki Murai (Knights of Sidonia, Natsume's Book of Friends seasons 3-5) is handling the series composition, Chikashi Kadekaru (Scar-red Rider XechS, Hōkago Mania Club) is designing the characters, and Gō Shiina (Kyousougiga, God Eater) is composing the music at Avex Pictures. Nobuhiko Okamoto (Blue Exorcist's Rin, My Hero Academia's Bakugō) stars in the anime as Usagi, a man burdened with the title of the rabbit from the Chinese Zodiac.

Nisioisin and Nakamura published the novel in May 2015. In the "greatest battle royale novel ever," 12 warriors who are burdened with the names of the 12 Chinese Zodiac members fight with each other's lives and pride at stake, all to grant just one wish. Viz Media will release the novel in hardcover format in October.
