posted on by Anita Tai

This year's 28th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine announced on Thursday that Sui Ishida's Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re manga series have a combined 24 million copies in print.

Ishida serialized Tokyo Ghoul in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump from 2011 to 2014, and is now serializing Tokyo Ghoul:re. Shueisha published the 11th volume of Tokyo Ghoul:re on Monday and it will release the 12th volume on July 19.

As of March 9, the manga had a combined 22 million copies in print. Shueisha had published nine volumes of Tokyo Ghoul:re at the time.

Viz Media has licensed the Tokyo Ghoul:re sequel series, and it plans to release the manga starting this fall. Viz Media is also releasing the original Tokyo Ghoul manga in English, and it will publish the 13th volume (of 14 total) on Tuesday.

Tokyo Ghoul inspired two anime series, several original video anime projects, PlayStation Vita and smartphone games, and a stage play.

A live-action film adaptation is set for wide release in Japan on July 29. The film will debut in North America on July 3 at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, July 7 in Berlin, and July 10 at the Marunouchi Piccadilly theater in Chiyoda, Japan.
