Golden Kamuy Manga Has 3.75 Million Copies in Print

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

The combined third and fourth 2018 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine revealed on Thursday that Satoru Noda's Golden Kamuy manga has 3.75 million copies in print.

Viz Media has licensed the Golden Kamuy manga, and it describes the first volume:

In the early twentieth century, Russo-Japanese War veteran Saichi “Immortal” Sugimoto scratches out a meager existence during the postwar gold rush in the wilderness of Hokkaido. When he stumbles across a map to a fortune in hidden Ainu gold, he sets off on a treacherous quest to find it. But Sugimoto is not the only interested party, and everyone who knows about the gold will kill to possess it! Faced with the harsh conditions of the northern wilderness, ruthless criminals and rogue Japanese soldiers, Sugimoto will need all his skills and luck—and the help of an Ainu girl named Asirpa—to survive.

The manga is inspiring a television anime series that will premiere in April.

Noda launched the ongoing manga in Shueisha's Young Jump magazine in 2014. Shueisha published the manga's 12th volume on December 19. Viz Media published the manga's third volume on the same day.

Noda received a Manga Taisho award for the manga in March 2016. The series was also nominated for Best General Manga at the 40th annual Kodansha Manga Awards and for the 20th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize last year.
