The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Countdown Site Reveals TV Airing

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Studio Chizu's "https://miraidematteru.com" countdown website ("Mirai de Matteru" means "Waiting in the Future") for Madhouse and Mamoru Hosoda's The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki o Kakeru Shōjo) anime film ended on Wednesday to reveal a television airing for the anime on NTV on Friday at 9:00 p.m. The site is now counting down to the broadcast, and is promising a special event after the broadcast.

The site also features a promotional campaign, where site visitors can listen to a notable line said by the character Chiaki. As in the film, the line is binaurally recorded, with the sound direction changing according to where Chiaki is in the scene. Those who share the site on Twitter at the moment of the scene during the Friday broadcast will be able to enter a lottery to win a signed illustration board with an illustration of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time protagonist Makoto and Mirai no Mirai film's protagonist Mirai by Hosoda.

Hosoda adapted Yasutaka Tsutsui's 1965 novel The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki o Kakeru Shōjo) into an award-winning anime film in 2006. The film is a loose sequel to the original novel, sharing the premise of a girl gaining the ability to time travel, but with different characters and situations. The novel's main character appears in the anime film as the protagonist's aunt.

Hosoda and Studio Chizu's latest film, Mirai no Mirai (Mirai of the Future), opens in Japan on July 20.
