Sony Tests New Feature to Enable Changing PSN Online ID

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

The official U.S. PlayStation blog announced on Wednesday that Sony Interactive Entertainment will begin testing a new feature for the PlayStation Network service that will allow users to change their online ID in the service. The beta test of the new feature will be available to users who have previously registered as testers for PlayStation 4 beta services.

Testers for the feature will be able to change their online ID in the service during the beta, with the first change available for free, and further changes available for US$9.99 (US$4.99 for PlayStation Plus subscribers).

The announcement noted that the online ID change will be compatible with all games released for the PS4 after April 1 of this year, and a "large majority" of PS4 games released prior to that date. Sony stated the name change is not guaranteed to be compatible with all PS4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita games.

The beta will conclude in November, with the feature planned to be made widely available by early 2019.
