VGChartz: PS4 Has Sold 88.05 Million Units, Xbox One Has Sold 40 Million Units

Game industry sales analysis site VGChartz announced its estimated lifetime sales for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game consoles last week. It estimated total lifetime sales of 88.05 million units for the PlayStation 4, more than the PlayStation 3's lifetime sales of 86.90 million units. The Xbox One has an estimated total lifetime sales of 40,020,713 units.

VGChartz estimated that the PlayStation 4 sold 35.56 million units in Europe, 27.18 million units in the United States, and 7.24 million units in Japan. It also estimated the Xbox One with 22,539,411 units sold in the United States, 10,877,912 units sold in Europe, and 101,483 units sold in Japan.

Sony previously revealed in October that it had shipped a worldwide total to 86.1 million units for the PlayStation 4 as of September 30.

The PlayStation 4 console first launched in the U.S. and Canada in November 2013 and in Japan in February 2014. The Xbox One launched in November 2013 in some countries including the United States and Canada, and in September 2014 in other regions including Japan.
