The 24-hour Japanese-language channel FAMILY GEKIJO U.S. began airing the Space Battleship Yamato III (Uchusenkan Yamato 3 or Star Blazers: The Bolar Wars) anime and the The Next Generation -Patlabor- live-action movie series this January. Space Battleship Yamato III is airing two episodes every Monday to Friday at 11:00 p.m. EST. The Next Generation -Patlabor- is airing Monday to Friday at 3:00 a.m. EST. Both series are in Japanese with no subtitles.

Tohokushinsha Film Corporation launched the FAMILY GEKIJYO U.S. channel exclusively on the USA's DISH Network, in collaboration with Superswiss, last April.

The 25-episode Uchusenkan Yamato 3 anime aired in 1980-1981. FAMILY GEKIJO U.S. already aired Uchusenkan Yamato (Star Blazers) and Uchusenkan Yamato 2 (Star Blazers: The Comet Empire).

The Next Generation -Patlabor- project is not a remake of the earlier Patlabor anime stories, but a completely new work. The story is set in Tokyo in 2013, and it represents the "third generation" of Patlabor. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police has disbanded its Section 2 Division 1 of police robots, and Section 2 Division 2 barely survived the budget cuts due to the long recession.
