So I'm A Spider So What? The Daily Lives of The Kumoko Sisters

What's It About?

So, as you mighta noticed, I got reincarnated in another world—as a spider! And somewhere along the line, I somehow picked up skill called Parallel Minds. Which, y'know, is great when you need a little extra help running from monsters and firing off magic spells. But it can get kinda crazy when there's four of me living in my head...

So I'm a Spider, So What? The Daily Lives of the Kumoko Sisters is a spinoff of the light novel series by Okina Baba. The manga is drawn by Gratinbird and Yen Press has released its first volume both digitally and physically for $6.99 and $13.00 respectively

So I'm a Spider, So What? was definitely one of the more unique isekai shows to have come out in the past year. The idea of a young girl getting reincarnated as one of the weakest monsters in an entire fantasy world and thus forcing her to slowly climb up the ranks can be fun. One of the most unique aspects of this progression was how the character split up into 4 separate attributes of her psyche after an evolution, but I wasn't sure if that novelty warranted an entire spinoff series and after finishing this first volume, I'm still not sure. This manga volume kind of reminds me of those SpongeBob skits where we would zoom inside the characters head and just see a bunch of mini versions of himself running around causing havoc. These are definitely four parts of the same brain because it feels like there's only a handful of brain cells shared amongst the four of them together. Distinguishing between the four avatars can get a little bit confusing at times, but there seem to be one or two gags associated with each specific spider, and sometimes the jokes even land relatively well! However, by the end of the volume I'm a little burnt out on this whole idea especially since it feels like a side story in every sense of the word. There are not going to be any major revelations or inquiries that will ultimately impact things in the main story, which is fine, but does further highlight that this is a story made specifically for people who liked some of these gags in the main series and just want more of it. If you consider yourself one of those people then more power to you; otherwise I would definitely recommend checking out that mainline series first before picking up this book.
