Filmmakers Create Homage to Ghost in the Shell

posted on by Chris Nishijima
Team led by CG artist Ash Thorp brings the robotic world of Ghost in the Shell to life.

Shirow Masamune's Ghost in the Shell has often been cited as one of the most influential works of anime of all time. To show just how much it has affected their work, a group of videographers, CG artists, photographers, and more have come together to produce a short tribute to Masamune's masterpiece.

Titled "Project 2501," the short homage is directed by Ash Thorp and stars freelance model Christine Adams in the role of Motoko Kusanagi. Thorp's tribute to the classic anime masterpiece utilized the skills of filmmakers across the globe, in San Diego, Poland, and Singapore. The finished product is breathtaking, but be warned, as it does contain nudity.

Coincidentally or not, this homage is perfectly timed, falling in line with the 25th anniversary of Ghost in the Shell's original publication. The American live-action adaptation of Masamune's classic is scheduled for production under film company DreamWorks. If it is anything like the work that Thorp and his team has put together, it is sure to be a success.
