posted on by Bamboo Dong
Japanese artist Mr., a Saitama-based pop artist who works with otaku and "kawaii" subculture, is holding his first solo U.S. art show, hosted by Seattle's Asian Art Museum. The exhibit will be at the Tateuchi Galleries from November 22, 2014 to April 5, 2015, with tickets available online or at the door.
Mr. is a former protege of Takashi Murakami, who is renowned for the practice and analysis of his Superflat art theory. Both Mr. and Murakami also worked together on Pharrell Williams' "It Girl" music video, in which Mr. served as the director alongside Fantasista Utamaro.
The Mr. exhibit, titled Live On, presents Mr.'s work from the past 15 years, including his new works that explore moe. The exhibit is organized by the Seattle Art Museum in collaboration with Kaikai Kiki, Galerie Perrotin, and Lehmann Maupin Gallery.
