Japanese High School Students Mix It Up for 'Sex Change Day'

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

In attempt to get its students to reexamine the traditional meanings of "masculinity" and "femininity," Fujiyoshida's Fuji Kitaryo High School in Yamanashi Prefecture allowed students to participate in "Sex Change Day," on Tuesday, where male and female students could opt to wear one another's uniforms. 299 students (117 boys and 182 girls) chose to wear their peers' uniforms.

Participating students received a special lesson on how the change can affect their awareness of their own behavior and those around them, as well as dangers of accepting the "norm."
