Anime Series Celebrate 'Coming of Age' Day

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Of Japan's many holidays celebrated throughout the year, a number of them recognize age-oriented milestones like Children's Day and Respect for the Aged Day. Today also marks a holiday in Japan: Coming of Age Day. Usually this day is reserved for celebrating teens who cross over into adulthood by successfully reaching the 20-year mark this year.

If you've paid attention to many of the merchandise articles featured on Anime News Network lately, you've probably seen that several anime series are also celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. Let's take a look back at what popular anime series were "born" in 1996 and are celebrating their own "coming of age."

The official Sega Twitter account also participated in the festivities. The video game company acknowledged that Sakura Wars was released for Sega Saturn in 1996. Nintendo's Pokémon Red & Blue and Atlus' Revelations: Persona were also released this year.
