Vigilante Kamen Rider Battles Drunk Drivers on Fukuoka Streets

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The roads of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka are a safer place thanks to one masked vigilante. The stalwart superhero is none other than Kamen Rider 1. Riding about town on his motorcycle, he's taken it upon himself to protect the town's citizens by tracking down drunk drivers and entertaining the children.

By day, the hero is mild-mannered upcycle artisan Shinjiro Kumagai. Kumagai turns aluminum cans into new works of art. However, his Kamen Rider sponsor and good friend is Fukumitsu, the head priest of the famous Gokurakuji Buddhist temple. Fukumitsu is a huge Kamen Rider fan and has collected memorabilia for at least 20 years. Kumagai also has a good relationship with local authorities. He has an armband that designates him as an official drunk driver patrolman.

When he's not keeping a lookout for troublemakers, Kamen Rider goes on more mundane adventures like eating local food and feeding cows.

Kamen Rider 1 isn't the only vigilante on the scene. Chiba has its own Chibatman, although the police aren't as enthused by him.
