The 6th annual Far East Cosplay Contest was held last weekend as part of the 17th Udine Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy. A total of 78 anime and game fans gathered for a chance to compete and win one of two trips to Japan.
Contestants wore costumes from Disney's Frozen, a duo dressed as the K-Pop group VIXX, and a cosplayer dressed as AKB48 idol Atsuko Maeda. The winner Marco Schenato towered above the rest in a full-size Totoro costume with Valentina Diddoro as Mei Kusakabe in tow. The pair recreated a scene from the film with Italian audio.

Schenato shares the title of "Best Italian Far East Cosplayers" with the festival's other first place winner, Elisa Goldin. Goldin dressed as the Banshee Queen from the MMORPG Lineage II (top right in photo).
The giant Totoro wasn't the only Ghibli-related attraction at the festival. Composer Joe Hisaishi was also present where he conducted and performed a live concert.
