Naruto Characters Infiltrate Classic Hokusai Woodprint
posted on by Eric Stimson
Aniplex is offering Naruto fans a variation on Katsushika Hokusai's world-famous woodprint The Great Wave Off Kanagawa featuring the Naruto cast. The woodprints are made individually by hand by expert craftsmen, so supplies are limited.
Craftsmen carefully carve lines into wooden blocks.
Printing involves rubbing a sheet of Japanese paper onto the carved block.
The woodprint costs 50,000 yen (about $400) and can be ordered here. It may be ordered until July 27 and will be delivered near the end of October.
Hokusai was a renowned artist living from 1760 to 1849. The The Great Wave Off Kanagawa was part of a series of woodblocks called Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji created in the 1820s. He's also the creator of the infamous woodblock Dream of the Fisherman's Wife and other art both beautiful and erotic. Production I.G premiered its film Miss Hokusai about the artist's talented 23-year-old daughter O-Ei and her work assisting her acclaimed father last month.
