September 6 'Officially' Recognized as Shigeru Matsuzaki Day

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The Japan Anniversary Association has "officially" recognized September 6 as Shigeru Matsuzaki Day. This year marks the 45th anniversary of Matsuzaki's musical debut, while September 6 is a pun (ku-ro) on "kuro" or "black" and is also the date of his upcoming KuroFes event. His latest album Black on Black also came out last year.

Matsuzaki is performing at the anniversary celebration at Chiba Makuhari Messe with Momoiro Clover Z, STARDUST REVUE, Taro Hakase, Michiko Shimizu, Toshiyuki Nishida, SuG, Silent Siren, LE VELVETS, Yukie Nishimura, Korokke, and more.

Matsuzaki got his start in 1970 and won a Japan Record Award for his song "Ai no Memory" in 1977.

He may be best known to anime fans for his performance as Hideki in Nerima Daikon Brothers and performing the series theme song. He also starred in the 1982 Space Adventure Cobra film and performed the ending theme for the television remake in 2010. He appeared in a duet with T.M. Revolution at the Inazuma Rock Festival last year where they performed the track "Black or White."
