Gundam Gets Gold-Plated with New Dinnerware

Gundam receives the Midas touch with brand new plates.
The popular giant robot anime franchise is teaming up with gold-plated product company Hakuza to present Gundam Gilted Glass Plates. As the fourth set of the "Discover-G" line that features Gundam on traditional Japanese products, these golden dishes feature illustrations of a traditional Gundam and a Zaku unit drawn by mecha designer Kunio Okawara.
The plates also come with two special display stands for each piece.
The plates come as a set and go for 8,424 yen (US$70). Pre-orders are currently being accepted until September 24 and the plates will ship in January. They will also be available at the Gundam Cafe in Akihabara.
Mobile Suit Gundam Exhibit: The Art of Gundam earlier this year displayed its own gold Gundam, and silver too, worth 20 million yen.
