posted on by Carlos Cadorniga

The non-profit Nippon Foundation is starting up a new project to use manga as learning tools for young children known as "This is Also a Learning Manga ~World Discovery Project~." This project aims to collect over 100% manga for encouraging education within students and enhancing their learning experience. This will be done through special educational events as well as through special textbooks.

The project will be run by seven individuals, including Meiji University manga research professor Yukari Fujimoto. It will be supervised by josei manga artist Machiko Satonaka and Keio University professor Ichiya Nakamura.

"There is a vast array of manga that can stimulate reactions," Satonaka said of the selection process. "All of it can be used educationally. We wanted to choose works that truly portrayed different aspects of life."

The official website for the project lists all of the 100 selected works. Selections are organized by topic like literature, life and world, the arts, and society. Each individual title also includes information on the appropriate grade level.
