Geminoid F Android Makes Her Movie Star Debut

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Recent award winner, robotics researcher and Osaka University professor Hiroshi Ishiguro has worked hard on his Erica, Otonaroid, and Geminoid robots. The latter includes the Geminoid HI-2 which he modeled after himself and the female version Geminoid F, who is the recent star of a motion picture.

Geminoid F stars as Leona with organic actress Bryerly Long as Tania in the film Sayonara. In the film, Geminoid plays Long's helper android who keeps her company as most of Japan is evacuated due to radiation contamination.

The melancholic movie shows the slow deterioration of Tania, who is given a lesser priority over the native Japanese to evacuate and begins succumbing to radiation poisoning. Her companion does not understand the concept of death.

Sayonara opens at theaters in Japan on November 21.
