BPO Publishes Viewer Complaint About 'Suggestive Banana Eating' in Kids' Anime

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The Japanese Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization (BPO) watchdog group has recently published viewer complaints from November, one stemming from an allegedly "suggestive" banana-eating scene in a children's anime program.

According to the complaint, the sexual situation starred a male character that became a woman before eating the banana suggestively. The parent notes that while kids were unlikely to understand the scene, it was uncomfortable to watch from a parent's perspective. The specific anime the scene appeared in isn't identified, although a similar scene took place in episode 96 of Yo-kai Watch.

The BPO published viewer complaints in October stemming from a scene in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. The complaint refers to an anime where "several nonresistant prisoners and enemy soldiers are gunned down by the young male protagonist." In August, the BPO also published a complaint against the ending sequence to idol anime PriPara, which depicted the young girl protagonists in swimsuits. Specifically, Sophie Hojo wore a black negligee mirroring a photo of Marilyn Monroe. The ending sequence was edited.
