High School Girls Head to Studio in Latest Installment of Dōjin Anime Series

posted on by Eric Stimson
Includes guest appearance by heavy metal guitarist

Anime fans with a passion for rock will be glad to hear that Metako and Muffyu, the high school girls of the "High School Girls Shop for a --" web anime series, are back with another installment. This time, they've apparently run through Muffyu's shopping list and opt to visit a studio to make the most out of the sound equipment there.

"High School Girls Go to a Studio" gets off to a bumpy start since Muffyu forgot to make a reservation... or even start a membership. Once that's taken care of, though, the girls enjoy themselves with the drums, whiteboard, amplifiers, effects units, and vending machine drinks. Muffyu explains what studios are for, the differences between amplifiers, and how to turn them on. But things really heat up when a mysterious hermit descends from the heavens to instruct them on how to most effectively use their guitars and sound equipment to get the right sound and distortion. After a lengthy explanation, the three characters rock out.

"High School Girls Shop for a --" began as a four-minute short about effects units in 2014. It has since expanded in scope and length — the latest entry is nine and a half minutes long. The hermit is also played by Shinji Wajima, lead guitarist for the heavy metal band Ningen Isu. Wajima also provided the guitar music his character ("Waji") plays and wrote his lines. "I explained how to make sounds with a guitar in a simple way, so those who are interested should definitely watch it once," he said.

The anime series is primarily the work of Hikari Matsuda, who voices the girls. She is a singer, guitarist and bassist in the bands nakanoise and Deroppy Doroppy and has previously partnered with Roland and Shimamura Music to promote music equipment.
